Day 13 - Bum Marketing Adventure

Today was an interesting day. I didn't pump out very much content today. I got one good page up. Most of today was spent revisiting some of my better sites I had done.

I went through and tweaked a whole bunch of sites. I realized some very stupid mistakes I was making. For example, in one site it was a bit of a "how to" with some affiliate links mixed in there, along with some non affiliate ones. The other links were there to download other programs I was talking about. What I was doing that was stupid was NOT opening them in a new window. So if somebody had been reading through my site, they might follow the link, leaving my site forever. That's obviously bad. The second thing I fixed was the start of the page. The most boring and long section of the whole how-to was at the front, I moved it to the very back. Durr.

I spent some time with Commission Junction. I didn't realize they were easier to sign up with than before. I had looked into internet marketing years back, and CJ used to require a site with something like 5,000 visitors a month. So that was nice. There are a lot of good vendors in there.

Playing with Commission Junction made me realize something I wasn't tapping into. BANNERS! They look nice, really draw attention, and "square off" blogs pretty nicely, imo. I wish the blogs were a bit more flexible in exact placement, but I can't complain too much, they are free.

I also worked on my "content" blogs a bit more. I have about 4 content blogs I plan on keeping up with. At least a few posts a week on each of them.

I'm starting to wonder if Google just doesn't index pages unless you really work for it. I guess that'd make sense, but from talking to people, that's not the indication I get. Pretty much all of them say their Squidoo's get indexed quickly without doing much of anything. I have about 5 that are two weeks old now with no index. The only pages of mine that are indexed are ones that I used some "moves" on.

Still waiting on ezinearticles to up my membership.
